It is a site composed of a series of ceremonial, residential, and agricultural-livestock caves. In one of these caves, the curious phenomenon occurs: sunlight penetrates through an upper window, illuminating the western wall in an enigmatic manner, marking the sunrise from the Summer Solstice to the Autumn Solstice, with various pubic carvings and small ledges.
It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 7, 2019, as "an exceptional archaeological monument on a global scale."
UNESCO has added the Risco Caído site and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria to its Archaeoastronomy portal, making it a World Heritage Site and the first archaeological site in the Canary Islands to achieve this distinction.
